Workflow tool comparison
Bandura vs n8n for local AI workflows
Compare a local desktop workflow workspace with an automation platform: execution, scheduling, model setup, debugging, and sharing.
Updated 2026-10-01
Choose based on how the workflow will run. Bandura fits work you build, run, and inspect on your computer. n8n fits workflows you operate as an automation service, including scheduled jobs. This comparison was reviewed on October 1, 2026; product behavior can change.
Compare the execution model
| Question | Bandura | n8n |
|---|---|---|
| Where does it run? | Local desktop app; separate CLI for supported flows in terminals or CI | Cloud service or a self-hosted instance |
| Built-in scheduled execution? | No. Use an external scheduler with the CLI when appropriate | Schedule Trigger supports recurring execution |
| Workflow format? | Readable .aether YAML; graph and code edit the same file | Workflows can be exported and imported as JSON |
| Local model path? | Configure an OpenAI-compatible Ollama or LM Studio endpoint | Ollama credentials configure the model endpoint for supported nodes |
| Starting examples? | A small downloadable library with explicit checks | A broad community workflow template library |
| Licensing? | Proprietary; free for personal and commercial use | Fair-code licensing; consult the current terms for your use |
n8n’s deployment, scheduling, and export behavior is documented in its hosting guide, Schedule Trigger reference, and workflow export/import guide. Its Ollama credentials and template library describe the model and example paths. Check its licensing documentation before deploying for a particular business model.
Choose Bandura when you need to inspect a local process
Use Bandura when the job is to build or debug a repeatable process on your own machine, inspect requests and variables, and review a workflow file in Git. Start with a classification example or API request chain.
You can edit the same file visually or as YAML. Assertions let you check an expected output rather than accepting whatever a model returns. Scripts and assertion expressions require some JavaScript knowledge; calling the product “no code” would hide that requirement.
Choose n8n when you need an automation service
If your main requirement is scheduled workflows, hosted operation, or a wide existing template ecosystem, evaluate n8n first. Self-hosting is an operating responsibility: use its own guidance for deployment and maintenance. A Bandura desktop download is not a substitute for a continuously running hosted automation service.
This page does not claim feature parity, identical integrations, or automatic migration between their workflow formats. Bandura’s .aether files and n8n’s workflow JSON are different formats.
Local does not automatically mean private
Both approaches need configuration that matches your data requirements. A local model call can remain local, while an API step sends a request to its destination. Hosted providers receive the prompts you send. Inspect the configured endpoints and the tools used by each workflow.
Read Bandura’s security page and follow the Ollama setup guide before trying sensitive inputs. Use synthetic samples first.
Test the same small task
Choose a task with a known expected output, such as classifying three labelled messages. Check whether you can understand the result, find a failed step, share the workflow, and run it in the environment you actually need. The CSV evaluation template provides a small Bandura starting point; its sample size is not a model accuracy claim.
